The baryon production in jets provides a probe of double-strangeness creation and baryon formation in the non-perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD) process. This study measures the production rates and momentum spectra in energy-ranked jets using 3.2 million events from the DELPHI open data collected from 1992 to 1995. Jets are reconstructed with the Durham algorithm with , and quark- and gluon-enriched jet samples are obtained from the energy ordering of jets in three-jet events. The average production in energy-ranked jets are measured. The ratio of production rates in gluon and quark jets relative to the mean charged-particle multiplicity is derived from the measurements. We obtain , consistent with the JETSET expectation and the OPAL results for and within uncertainties. This study is the first measurement of production in energy-ranked jets in boson decays.
