Apartment classes of integral symplectic groups

In this note we present an alternative proof of a theorem of Gunnells, which states that the Steinberg module of $\mathrm{}(\mathbb{Q})$ is a cyclic $\mathrm{}(\mathbb{Z})$-module, generated by integral apartment classes.
