Continued-fraction characterization of Stieltjes moment sequences with support in $[\xi ,\mathrm{\infty })$

We give a continued-fraction characterization of Stieltjes moment sequences for which there exists a representing measure with support in $[\xi ,\mathrm{\infty })$. The proof is elementary.
