We show that under minimal assumptions on a class of functions defined on a probability space , there is a threshold satisfying the following: for every , with probability at least with respect to , here is distributed according to and are independent copies of . The value of is determined by an unexpected complexity parameter of the class that captures the set’s geometry (Talagrand’s -functional). The bound, the probability estimate and the value of are all optimal up to a logarithmic factor.
