Physics of FeGaTe having higher Curie temperature () than FeGeTe is explored theoretically in the framework of magnetic exchange interactions. FeGaTe and FeGeTe are isostructural, with FeGaTe having one less valence electron and smaller nearest-neighbor exchange coefficients ( and ), challenging the conventional notion that larger or leads to a higher . We show that higher order exchange coefficients, or higher, of FeGaTe are positive whereas those of FeGeTe are negative. As a consequence, total sum of all possible exchange coefficients in FeGaTe are larger than FeGeTe, which accounts for higher . To validate these findings, are computed using both mean-field theory and Monte Carlo simulation. Indeed, higher-order exchange interactions, when properly accounting for the number of neighbors, confirm the higher of FeGaTe.
