Given an edge-coloured graph, we say that a subgraph is rainbow if all of its edges have different colours. Let rainbow- denote the maximal number of copies of that a properly edge-coloured graph on vertices can contain if it has no rainbow subgraph isomorphic to . We determine the order of magnitude of rainbow- for all with . In particular, we answer a question of Gerbner, M'esz'aros, Methuku and Palmer by showing that rainbow- is if $k\geq 3\Theta(n^2)k=2\operatorname{ex}(n,P_\ell,C_{2k})k,\ell\geq 2P_\ell\ell$ edges.
