Let G be a 5-connected nonplanar graph and let x1,x2,y1,y2∈V(G) be
distinct, such that G[{x1,x2,y1,y2}]≅K4− and $y_1y_2\notin
E(G).Weshowthatoneofthefollowingholds:G-x_1containsK_4^-,orGcontainsaK_4^-inwhichx_1isofdegree2,orGcontainsaTK_5inwhichx_1isnotabranchvertex,or{x_2,y_1,y_2}$ may be chosen so
that for any distinct z0,z1∈N(x1)−{x2,y1,y2}, $G-{x_1v:v\notin
{z_0, z_1,x_2, y_1,y_2}}containsTK_5$. This result will be used to prove
the Kelmans-Seymour conjecture.
