Consider the perpetuity equation , where and on the right-hand side are independent. The Kesten–Grincevi\v{c}ius–Goldie theorem states that $P { X > x } \sim c x^{-\kappa}E A^\kappa = 1E A^\kappa \log_+ A < \inftyE |B|^\kappa < \inftyE |B|^\nu < \infty\nu > \kappaE A^\kappa = 1E A^\kappa \log_+ A = \inftyE A^\kappa < 1E A^t = \inftyt > \kappa$. We show that under appropriate additional assumptions on the asymptotic $P { X > x } \sim c x^{-\kappa} \ell(x) \ell$ is a nonconstant slowly varying function. We use Goldie’s renewal theoretic approach.
