Let a>1 be an integer. Denote by la(n) the multiplicative order of a
modulo integer n≥1. We prove that there is a positive constant δ
such that if x1−δlog3x=o(y), then y1a<y∑x1a<n<x(a,n)=1∑la(n)=logxxexp(Blogloglogxloglogx(1+o(1))) where B=e−γp∏(1−(p−1)2(p+1)1). This is an
improvement over a statement in Kurlberg and Pomerance (see ~\cite{KP}):
x21a<x∑a<n<x∑la(n)=logxxexp(Blogloglogxloglogx(1+o(1))).
