Layer lengths, torsion theories and the finitistic dimension

Let $\mathrm{\Lambda }$ be an artinian ring. Generalizing the Loewy length, we propose the layer length associated with a torsion theory, which is a new measure for finitely generated $\mathrm{\Lambda }$-modules.
