For a set of positive integers, let denote the number of representations of as a difference of two elements of . We prove that, if , then for every Sidon set and every positive function tending to infinity there is a set such that for all and for all . We also give two extensions that allow for infinitely many . For an infinite Sidon set , the same density scale is retained when is at least on arbitrarily long intervals centered at elements of . If contains arbitrarily long intervals, the density scale is obtained for every Sidon set . The proofs use remote insertion of new representations together with controlled deletions from a Sidon core. As a quantitative consequence, Ruzsa’s dense infinite Sidon sequence gives whenever contains arbitrarily long intervals.
