For a fixed nonempty finite set of positive integers and , let denote the non-uniform hypergraph whose edge set consists of all -subsets of for . A -factor of a hypergraph is a collection of pairwise disjoint edges whose union is . We say is -factorable if can be partitioned into -factors. In this paper, we study the 1-factorability of . Earlier work of He, Huang, and Ma shows that, for all sufficiently large , -factorability can occur only in the residue classes and modulo : it always occurs in class , whereas it occurs in class only if . We determine exactly when -factorability occurs in this exceptional class. More precisely, we define a finite gcd-peeling algorithm on and prove that is -factorable if and only if the algorithm accepts. As a consequence, our result provides a criterion for the -factorability of and confirms the conjecture posed by He, Huang, and Ma.
