We prove that almost all finite groups are -groups of nilpotency class two, when groups of order at most are counted up to isomorphism and . More precisely, uniformly for , all but an proportion have order and class two, for some absolute constant . For each fixed prime , we give a formula for the number of groups of order , with relative error as . This refines the classical logarithmic estimates for the number of -groups. For every fixed prime and sufficiently large , we also prove that all but a proportion of groups of order have central elementary abelian Frattini subgroup. For fixed , the distribution of the minimum number of generators among groups of order is asymptotically supported on one or two adjacent values, with explicit probabilities depending on modulo three.
