A Construction of an Extremal Even Unimodular Lattice of Rank $88$

In this paper, we construct a positive definite extremal even unimodular lattice of rank $88$. We further show that this lattice is extreme, and hence that the density of the corresponding lattice sphere packing is locally maximal.
